Microblading

Microblading is the most natural semi-permanent make up brow procedure you can create. It can completely transform your look in a very subtle way. It is different from a traditional permanent make up tattoo, it is tiny little hair strokes that are implanted into the basel layer of the epidermis with the use of a hand-held tool or machine depending on which design you choose.

Powdered brows will help clients achieve more of a powdered or ombré look instead of individual hair strokes using a machine. Powdered brows give the effect of a soft makeup look and work great for clients with oily or mature skin. Ombré effect is suitable for all skin types. Upon consultation we will determine what design is most suitable for you.

PRECARE

In order to achieve the best results, it is best to follow the pre and post care instructions.

Prior to your procedure, clients are advised of the following:

  • Avoid alcohol and aspirin/ibuprofen and any vitamins that may thin your blood for 72 hours.
  • Avoid tanning so we can assess your natural skin tone.
  • No face scrubs or chemical peels at least two weeks prior.
  • Feel free to come in with their brow makeup on so our technician can see your every day look you prefer. Reference pictures of shapes and colors of brows are always welcomed. We will then work together to create the perfect brows!

AFTERCARE

Following your microblading aftercare instructions is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT for best results! If you don’t follow the instructions 100% you risk reducing the length of your results and may increase the risk of poor healing and patchy brows.

Remember the colour is up to 50% darker straight after the treatment. It will fade after 4 to 7 days and the true colour will not come through until up to 4 weeks after the initial treatment. During the healing process, the colour may seem to have disappeared as the healing skin obscures it. Under no circumstances should you have further permanent cosmetic work undertaken during the 4-week period.

The first 10 days:

  • Do not touch the brow area. Do not itch, pick, scratch or rub the area or the colour will heal unevenly or cause scarring and infection.
  • Do not cover your eyebrows with your fringe in the first 2 days, this is the easiest way to cause infection – keep you fringe away from your eyebrows.
  • Do not get your brows wet. When washing your face, wash around the brow and backwash your hair. Refrain from swimming or using a sauna. Excessive wetness will wash away the pigment if your skin has not healed over properly.
  • Do not use make-up on the brow. You can wear makeup around the brow area but do not to put makeup of any kind on your brows until the brows are fully healed (around 10 days). Do not have a facial or use creams with fruit acids.
  • Do not use tanning beds or sunbathe for 7 days. Do not expose the area to extreme heat or extreme cold until healed (this can take up to 4 weeks to heal fully). This includes sunbathing, tanning beds, saunas etc.
  • Failure to follow pre-care and aftercare advice will adversely affect the outcome of your newly microbladed eyebrows.

Long Term Care

  • We advise you to have your first top-up 4-6 weeks after your first procedure. It is your responsibility to contact us to book your appointment. Top up appointments booked after this date will incur further costs.
  • Top ups are advised yearly to keep your colour looking perfect, although not always needed and this is personal choice.
  • To avoid pigment fading for as long as possible, avoid excessive exposure to the sun or UV rays and use a good sunscreen or moisturiser with an SPF30.
  • If you are planning a chemical peel or any other similar procedures, please inform your practitioner that you have had permanent cosmetics.
  • National Blood service do not accept donations of blood for 4 months after a permanent cosmetic tattoo enhancement. Please inform the National Blood Service of your procedure and date if you want to give blood.
  • If you are planning injections such as Botox and Collagen remember it can alter the shape of your eyebrows.
  • Laser hair removal can fade and change the shade of your brow procedures, always advise the laser technician you are wearing permanent cosmetics and they can act accordingly.
CLEANING YOUR BROWS
DAY 1
Always wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning your brows. Apply cooled boiled water to a cotton pad and dab your brows to remove the lymph. Apply a tiny amount of the aftercare balm to your brows with your ring finger gently. Repeat this every hour until you go to bed.
DAYS 2-4
Repeat 4 times. Morning lunch time, evening and before you go to bed.
DAYS 5-9
Apply cream 4 times a day.
EMOTIONS YOU MAY EXPERIENCE
Remember the colour is up to 50% darker straight after the treatment. It will fade after 4 to 7 days and the true colour will not come through until up to 4 weeks after the initial treatment. The following emotions are completely normal after a microblading procedure...
DAY 1
"I LOVE MY NEWS BROWS!"

Your brows are fresh, perfect and brand new. What's not to love?
DAYS 2-4
"My brows are way too dark and thick."

Your brows become darker over this period of time, they will lighten again.
DAYS 5-8
During these days your brows may be flaking and scabbing off. Make sure to NOT pick or remove the scabs or you may inadvertently remove some of your pigment!
DAYS 9-10
"My brows have completely fallen off!!"

Your brows will appear like they are completely gone during this time, but don't worry - they will still be there! And this is also why it's important to have your touch up.
DAYS 11-28
"My brows are coming back but they are patchy!"

Your brows will appear to be patchy and incomplete during this part of the healing process. Most of these patches will fill in overtime but if for some reason some area doesn't take the touch up will help fill the gap so to speak.
DAY 42
AFTER TOP UP

"My brows are better than I could have ever imagined!!!"

And now you are back to the way you felt after the first day

FAQs

For the first Microblading session, the entire procedure should take about 2.5-3 hours. During this session, your brow technician will shape and style your brows for your approval. We then follow with pigment colour selection.  Once you are satisfied with the choices, we begin the procedure.

You must come in for a follow up visit in order to have any minor necessary touch ups. The second Microblading session takes place after 4-6 weeks after the initial session. This session will take approximately 1.5-2 hours to complete.

The eyebrow area will be slightly red after the procedure and colour will appear very dark. This is normal for the procedure and part of the healing process. The color will fade by up to 40% as it heals. In the following days, the eyebrows will continue to be dark and you will notice slight scabbing. Do not pick at the scabs as this may damage the skin and the outcome of the microbladed area. The eyebrows will lighten up in colour as it heals. No down time is required after microblading procedure.  It takes approximately 7-14 days for the brows to heal over, and about 1 month for the colour to fully set in. You’ll notice the colour is very light right after the two weeks after healing; the skin will have an opaque milky looking quality to it. This is known as the milk skin and is common in tattooing. This is due to the the tissue still healing from the inside out even though the surface of the skin is healed. True colour will reveal itself once healed.

Yes! A touch up session after 4-6 weeks is necessary as everyone heals differently and outcome will vary. Certain areas may not pick up during first session and will need to be refilled.  Pigment colour may need to be adjusted, brow thickness and more strokes can be added. Clients with oily skin often require a deeper shade during the touch up session as the oils tend to lighten the pigment. Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the color for the whole year!

Touch up sessions should not be done earlier than 4 weeks after initial microblading session as pigment colour has not fully settled into the skin. Most importantly, this is to prevent scar damage as the tissue requires time to completely heal.

The pain level for the procedure is considered mild to none.  Prior to the procedure your brow technician will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area, and also reapplied during the procedure.  Everyone responds differently to anesthetic; depending on the client, the feeling of the procedure has been described as light cat scratches to not feeling anything. Topical anesthetics used may contain lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine.

After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area is normal.  Clients generally describe the area feeling similar to a light sunburn.  Clients can take paracetamol but not aspirin or ibuprofen.

Since microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade overtime.  Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature). Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: clients who tan, use products with AHA or Glycolic Acid will fade faster as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual’s colour retention within the skin will vary. To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up is suggested every 12-18 months. Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain.

Microblading is not suitable for the following clients:

  • Using Accutane
  • Have heart conditions or using heart medications
  • Have diabetes (will require a physician’s note)
  • Have skin disease or irritations
  • Have had Botox in the last 2 weeks
  • Have gotten a deep tan or chemical peels in the last 2 weeks
  • Allergic to lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine or epinephrine
  • Anyone who has any serious medical conditions may require a physician’s note.
  • Pregnant or nursing clients who want to microblade can be done at your own discretion. We suggest discussing with your doctor first. Microblading is still considered a tattoo, and just like with wine or sushi consumption, it is a personal choice to do so during this period.

* We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who we deem not suitable for this procedure or for any other reason. We make the decision to microblade an individual based on our own discretion. *
